Friday Fantastic – Poe’s “The Tell-Tale Heart,” as read by Nicolas Cage

Okay, so, apparently, every year for the past couple years, one of the many Alamo Drafthouse Cinemas in Austin, TX has hosted a film festival completely devoted to Nicolas Cage, simply titled “Caged.” It’s held every January, because that’s the month Mr. Cage was born. And every year since its inception, they had tried to get Mr. Cage to make an appearance at the festival. In the past, things didn’t work out; apparently, they got real close last year.

Then came this year.

Suffice to say, things worked out.

Mr. Cage was able to appear at the festival.

And the first thing he did was read Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Tell-Tale Heart.”

God, that would have been something to see.

Fortunately, we can, thanks to Youtube.

And we’re all the better for it.

I think what’s most impressive to me about this is, it’s a cold reading. In terms of acting, a cold reading means an actor does not prepare for it ahead of time. So, basically, he walked in to the festival and….did it.

Pardon my language, but he absolutely fucking did it! Fucking nailed it!

To all you Nicolas Cage haters out there….shut the fuck up!!!! To quote the man himself, “You just don’t know what you’re missing.”

He is phenomenal. Always has been, always will be.

And I love him.

So, today’s Friday Fantastic is Nicolas Cage’s cold reading of Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Tell-Tale Heart.”

Enjoy! And Happy Friday!
