Sorry. I’m actually trying not to fall asleep yet, simply because I don’t feel like it.
That, and I had some caffeine tonight. So. I can’t fall asleep easy right at the moment.
I found this on a website, can’t remember where, but I thought it would be fun to do.
What are your nicknames? What do you prefer to be called?
~ I only have one nickname, and it is Mouse. And that is what I prefer to be called, thank you.
What books on your shelf are begging to be read?
~ All of them, no matter how many times I’ve read them.
How often do you doodle? What do your doodles look like?
~ I did a whole post on doodles a while back. My lack of artistic vision, it was. Click here to see that post.
What do you do if you can’t sleep at night? Do you count sheep? Toss and turn? Try to get up and do something productive?
~ I either toss and turn, or I get up and try to do something productive. I have been known to start cleaning my room in the middle of the night!
How many days could you last in solitary confinement? How would you do it?
~ I’d last a while, I’m sure, so used to solitary living am I. How would I do it? I’d compose stories in my head. If I had the option to be supplied with writing utensils and paper, I’ll write.
Do you save old greeting cards and letters? Throw them away?
~ I’m sentimental, and I save stuff like that for a long time. I still have a box full of high school graduation mementos, right down to the topper from the cake I got!
Who is the biggest pack rat you know?
~ Me, of course.
When making an entrance in to a party, do you make your presence known? Do you slip in and look for someone you know? Do you sneak in quietly and find a safe spot to roost?
~ I slip in and make for a safe corner. Doesn’t matter if I know someone or not.
What is your strongest sense? If you had to give one up, which would it be?
~ My sixth sense. If I had to give one up, it’d be sight. I would die if I couldn’t hear music ever again.
How many times a day do you look at yourself in the mirror?
~ I try not to. But at least once, just to make sure I look okay before I head out the door to work.
What is the strangest thing you believed as a child?
~ That death was merely someone taking a long nap, a la Rip Van Winkle. Yessir, I really did.
What is one guilty pleasure you enjoy too much to give up?
~ Don’t have many guilty pleasures anymore – I either like something or I don’t. For example, I used to like to watch “America’s Next Top Model,” but I outgrew that and now I don’t watch it anymore. Simple.
Who performs the most random acts of kindness out of everyone you know?
~ Elvie, just because she always makes people laugh, which is kind enough sometimes.
How often do you read the newspaper? Which paper? Which sections?
~ I read our local paper, or I try to, every day, the whole paper. I like to read the horoscopes, too, just for a laugh.
Which animals scare you most? Why?
~ I hate bees, which isn’t technically an animal, but still. I got stung once when I was young, and broke out in hives and had trouble breathing. So I’m allergic to them, which is why I’m afraid of them.
Are you more likely to avoid conflict or engage it head-on?
~ I tend to avoid conflict. But it all depends on the situation.
What was the most recent compliment you’ve received and savoured?
~ That I am pretty. Johnny told me so.
What is something about yourself that you hope will change, but probably never will?
~ My shyness.
Are you a creature of habit? Explain.
~ Yes. I have a schedule, as it were, and if I deviate from it, I get all flustered and clumsy feeling.
Are you high maintenance? Explain.
~ No. I don’t wear makeup or fix my hair special at all. Most days, it takes me about ten minutes to get ready for work.
When was the last time you really pushed yourself to your physical limits?
~ Running in the Couch to 5K program at work. I like running – I push myself every run.
Do you have a whole lot of acquaintances or just a few very close friends? Why?
~ I don’t have many close friends or acquaintances at the moment. Just Johnny, and he’s my boyfriend.
Are you more inclined to “build your own empire” or unleash the potential of others?
~ Unleash the potential of others. I’ve been trying to talk Youngest Brother into perhaps going to college for video game design, because he’s got some good ideas and designs. He claims he’s too old, and I keep telling him he’s not.
What’s a strange occurrence you’ve experienced but have never (or rarely) shared with anyone?
~ I haven’t, really. Though I think I’d want to share it, because it was so strange. Don’t you think?
What do you think about more than anything else?
~ Everything. I worry too much, and I know I do.
What’s something that amazes you?
~ Bravery in people.
Do you prefer that people shoot straight with you or temper their words? Why?
~ I prefer people who shoot straight. Just because. I hate when people beat around the bush.
Where’s your favourite place to take an out-of-town guest?
~ I like to go to Naso’s or Leonardo’s. Both are great places.
What’s one thing you’d rather pay someone to do than do yourself? Why?
~ Mow the lawn or shovel snow, just so I don’t have to do it. tee hee.
Do you have a catchphrase?
~ “No fear.” Which isn’t really my catchphrase – I got it from Monty Python. But I just like it.
What’s your reaction towards people who are outspoken about their beliefs? What conditions cause you to dislike or, conversely, enjoy talking with them?
~ I both like and loathe those kinds of people. I like people who aren’t afraid to speak their mind, because that makes them brave. But sometimes, while being outspoken is one thing, it is possible to be too outspoken. If you get what I mean.
How and where do you prefer to study?
~ I prefer to study up in my room, when it’s nice and quiet, and at night.
What position do you sleep in?
~ On my side, either side, with my legs sort of folded beneath me.
What’s your all-time favourite town or city? Why?
~ I would tell you the town, but that would give something away. Let’s just say it’s in central Illinois, and I was born and began to be raised there, and we go back often to visit because family lives there.
What are the top three qualities that draw you to someone new?
~ Approachability, a sense of humor, and my own empathy. I know that third one is sort of self-centered, but it’s true enough.
How has your birth order/characteristics of siblings affected you?
~ I am the second born of four children, and am the youngest daughter. I don’t really know how that’s affected me. I remember Older Sister always got the cool new clothes while I was stuck with the hand-me-downs. Not that I resented her for that, because her clothes were always pretty cool. I don’t think my birth order affected me that much, other than when she went off to college, suddenly I was the ‘oldest’ in the house, and that was kinda weird. As for characteristics of siblings, well, to coin an overused phrase, we complete and compliment each other. So, that’s good.
If you could eliminate one weakness or limitation in your life, what would it be?
~ I wish I weren’t so shy and timid all the time. Not that I’d become bombast and the life of the party and all, but I just wish I weren’t held back by being shy. You know?
If you could restore one broken relationship, which would it be?
~ The strained relationship that currently exists between my family and a certain contingent of relatives. Like I said, we have one card left to play, and if that is rejected, we would be considered estranged. I hope it doesn’t come to that, but time will tell….
If you had to change your first name, what would you change it to?
~ Sarah, no question.
Do you believe ignorance is bliss? Why or why not?
~ Hard to say. For children, it is, probably. For adults, not so much. Why? Well, for children, it’s an innocence thing. For adults – well, there’s really not any sort of excuse. Adults should know better.
What do you consider unforgivable?
Have you forgiven yourself for past personal failures? Why or why not?
~ Yes. Because, well, just because. It’s in the past – no sense dwelling on it now. You know?
How difficult is it for you to forgive someone who refuses to apologize?
~ Well, I must be strange, in that I wouldn’t hold that over a person. But it does rub me the wrong way when, if I am right, the person doesn’t apologize. It’s something I wouldn’t forget.
Do you hold any convictions that you would be willing to die for?
~ Probably. It’s something I haven’t ever really thought much about. This might be dangerous to hope for, but I hope it doesn’t ever come to something like that.
To what extent do you trust people? Explain.
~ I think some people would consider me too trusting, but I’m really not. I tend to believe everyone is good unless they prove otherwise. That doesn’t mean I trust someone straight away. They have to prove they’re worth trusting. You know?
In what area of your life are you immature?
~ I am a perpetual girl. It’s not hard to figure out.
What was the best news you ever received?
~ That I was going to be published in the school literary magazine.
How difficult is it for you to be honest, even when your words may be hurtful or unpopular?
~ It isn’t hard for me to be honest. What’s hard for me a lot of times is finding the words to express my honesty at all. I’m sure people get frustrated with me sometimes because I tend to be monosyllabic, giving just one word answers like “Good” or “Fine” when they expect more of an answer. I don’t like being so monosyllabic anymore, but it’s almost habit now. Unfortunately.
When did you immediately click with someone you just met? Why? What was the long term result? Conversely, are you close with anyone now that you really disliked at first?
~ This is my empathetic nature talking again, but I seem to remember Cora and I clicked the first time we met. I wanted to befriend her because I sort of pitied her – she was bullied as much as I was. While we are currently friends on Facebook, we haven’t really talked to one another in many years. I would like to change that, but I really don’t know how to begin. Conversely – I have a tendency to be apprehensive about meeting anyone new. It takes a while for me to become close with anyone. Like my co-workers – I was shy as a mouse when we all first met, but now we can talk pretty easily together. It’s not because I dislike them right away or anything like that. I’m just so darn shy and awkward.
When do you find yourself singing?
~ Whenever, and for whatever reason. I like singing. I sing to my pets, even; each of them have their own designated theme song bestowed upon them by me. In fact, Nuala has several theme songs!
