A moment

This morning, while Mom was reading the paper, she came across an obituary for a 15 year old boy.

“I wonder if it was suicide,” she said.

Huh?!?, I thought.

“It doesn’t say anything was wrong with him [like an illness],” she continued.

Could’ve been an accident, I thought.

“That’s too bad,” she said. Then she looked at me. “Kids think that the only way to solve problems is to kill themselves?”

I did not look at her. Just shrugged and said, “Dunno.”

I restrained myself from saying “….but I know the feeling.”
