Tune for Tuesday #6 – A Fine Frenzy, “Electric Twist”

Changing gears.

Time for something fun.

Her name is Alison Sudol, but she’s best known as A Fine Frenzy. I picked up her first album, “One Cell in the Sea,” solely because I thought it looked like an interesting listen. And it was. Her third album, “Pines,” is out now; I have yet to get it.

But it was her second album, “Bomb in a Birdcage,” which made me a real fan. That is such an awesome album! Practically perfect in every way, every single song. Highly recommended.

And this particular song never fails to make me happy. No matter how down I feel, it just makes me happy. It’s the lyrics, I think. Everything else is just bonus, but it’s the lyrics. Who hasn’t ever felt this way?!? Her voice as well on this song – you can tell she’s just having so much fun with it. And the chorus, especially one line, makes me so giddy and gleeful. It’s fantastic!

I love this song. And I hope you do, too.

From her 2009 album “Bomb in a Birdcage,” this is A Fine Frenzy. The song is called “Electric Twist.”

(It isn’t that I’m against music videos. Music videos are fine. In fact, I highly recommend you check out the video for this particular song, because it’s sorta retro and so fun! But I’ve found that, over the years, I just prefer listening to the music instead of watching it. That’s all.)

Happy listening!

  1. Great tune! I also like how you went w/o the music video. listening is a lost art! i’m a musician, and i just started a video blog loosely around music, art, and the philosophy behind it all. I’m fascinated by music’s power to transform our moods, so I want to explore some of that. I will have to check out Alison Sudol. You ever heard “Boat Behind” by Kings of Convenience?—it’s a real mood transformer as well.

    • So sorry for the late reply! No, I haven’t heard “Boat Behind.” I’ll have to check that out. I’m always trying to expand my musical horizons. Thanks for the recommendation.
