Nyquil haze

Today is going to be a weird day.

For starters, I’ve got a cold. I’m not complaining, I’m merely stating the obvious – ’tis the season, after all.

The mistake I made was trying to remedy it.

Yesterday was a weird day, too. My wrist was bothering me, I was stuffed up, and I just had the worst headache. Tylenol didn’t help. Aleve didn’t help. My mother’s prescription ibuprofen didn’t help (and, yes, I know better than to take other people’s medications, but she said I should try one because I felt so bad).

So, last night, sort of at the end of my tether, I made myself some mint hot chocolate and took a couple Nyquil gelcaps.

I should’ve known better.

I’m not trying to say Nyquil is a bad product. It’s not. It works. I did sleep last night, because I turned my lights off last night and the next thing I knew, my morning alarm was going off. And I feel just fine, and my headache is gone, and I can still breathe uncongested. So, yeah, Nyquil works. I’d recommend it.

Just, you know, it’s not for me.

It has a strange additional side effect for me.

In that it doesn’t fully kick in until after I wake up the next morning.

Right now I have to get ready for work, when all I want to do is crawl back into bed. Because I’m so frikin’ drowsy right now!

Yeah. Like that.

And I know better than to try to counteract the effects with something like caffeine.

(Trust me, you don’t want to know.)

So it’s going to be a weird day.

Wish me luck.
